ไม้ล้มลุกอายุหลายปี สูง 1-3 เมตร ลำต้นเหนือดินเป็นลำ กลมชัดเจนออกสีน้ำตาลแดง มีขน ปลายกิ่งโค้งเวียน ใบ เดี่ยว เรียงเวียนสลับ รูปรีถึงรูปไข่กลับ กว้าง 6.5-15 ซม. ยาว 20-46 ซม. ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบกลมถึงเว้า เป็นรูปหัวใจ ผิวใบด้านบนเกลี้ยง ผิวใบด้านล่างมีขน ดอก สีขาว ออกเป็นช่อกระจุกแน่นที่ปลายกิ่ง ยาว 4.5-10 ซม. ใบประดับสีแดงเข้ม รูปไข่ ยาว 2-5.5 ซม. เรียงซ้อน กันแน่น กลีบรองดอกสีแดง ยาว 2-3 ซม. กลีบดอกสีขาว แผ่กลม กว้าง 5-7 ซม. ปลายจักและย่น ตรงกลางกลีบมีแต้ม สีเหลืองอ่อน เกสรผู้สีขาว รูปแคบรี ยาว 3-3.5 ซม. รังไข่มีขนแน่น ผล รูปรีป้อม กว้าง 1-1.6 ซม. ยาว 1.5-3 ซม. ผลแก่แตกตามยาว เมล็ดสีดำ

Erect, perennial, rhizomatous herb, 1-3 m high; stem terete, reddish brown, hairy; shoot spirally arranged. Leaves simple, alternate, elliptic to obovate, 20-46 cm long by 6.5-15 cm wide, upper surface glabrous, lower surface puberulous; base rounded to cordate; apex acute to acuminate. Inflorescence terminal and congested, head-like, 4.5-10 cm long; bract dark red, ovate, 2-5.5 cm long, densely imbricate. Flowers white; calyx red, 2-3 cm long; corolla 5-7 cm long, lobes broad with fimbriate margin, pale yellow patch at the throat; stamen white, narrowly elliptic, 3-3.5 cm long; ovary densely puberulous to villose. Fruit capsule, ellipsoid, 1.5-3 cm long, 1-1.6 cm wide. Seeds many, black.

พบกระจายในฑิเบต อินเดีย และเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ประเทศไทยพบบริเวณพื้นที่ชุ่มชื้น เปิดโล่ง ในป่าดงดิบหรือป่าสน ที่ระดับความสูง 800-1,700 เมตร ออกดอกช่วงเดือนกรกฎาคม-พฤศจิกายน

Tibet, India to Southeast Asia. In Thailand, found in moist open areas in evergreen forests and pine forests at elevations of 800-1,700 m. Flowering from July to November.
