ไม้ต้นขนาดเล็ก ถึงขนาดกลาง สูง 4-15 เมตร ใบ เดี่ยว รูปรีหรือแกมขอบขนาน กว้าง 3-5 ซม. ยาว 9-15 ซม. ปลายใบทู่ ถึงเรียวแหลม โคนใบรูปลิ่ม ขอบใบหยัก ดอก สีขาวหรือสีครีม มักออกเดี่ยวตามซอกใบ ดอกบานกว้างประมาณ 1.3 ซม. มีใบประดับ รองรับ กลีบรองดอก 5 กลีบ รูปไข่ถึงมนกลม ยาว 4-6 มม. กลีบดอก 5 กลีบ รูปไข่ถึงรูปกลม เกสรผู้สีเหลืองส้มจำนวนมาก ก้านเกสรเมีย สีเขียว 5 อัน แยกอิสระ ผล รูปไข่กลับ ยาว 3-3.5 ซม. ผิวเกลี้ยง สีเขียวสดแล้วเปลี่ยนเป็นสีม่วงเข้ม มีเมล็ด 3-5 เมล็ด เป็นเหลี่ยม
Small to medium sized tree, 4-15 m high. Leaves simple, elliptic to elliptic-oblong, 9-15 cm long by 3-5 cm wide; base cuneate; apex obtuse to acuminate; margin serrulate. Inflorescence axillary, solitary; bracteolate. Flowers white or creamy white, ca 1.3 cm across; calyx 5, ovate to orbicular, 4-6 mm long; corolla 5, ovate to orbicular; stamens numerous; anther orange-red; styles 5, free to the base, green. Fruit obovoid, fleshy, 3-3.5 cm long, glabrous, green and turn dark purple when mature. Seeds 3-5, angular.
เป็นพรรณไม้ถิ่นเดียว ของประเทศไทย พบทางภาคเหนือ ภาคตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ และภาคใต้ ขึ้นกระจายในป่าดิบแล้ง หรือป่าดิบชื้น ที่ระดับความสูง 100-1,850 เมตร ออกดอกช่วงเดือนกุมภาพันธ์-มีนาคม
Endemic to Thailand, found in the northern, southwestern and southern regions, in open areas and along the edge of evergreen forests, at elevations of 100-1,850 m. Flowering from February to March.
