ไม้ยืนต้น ผลัดใบ สูงได้ถึง 20 เมตร ใบ เป็นใบประกอบ แบบนิ้วมือ ใบย่อย 7-9 ใบ รูปหอกกลับแกมรี กว้าง 4-8.5 ซม. ยาว 11-22 ซม. ปลายเรียวแหลม แกนก้านใบยาว 20-30 ซม. ดอก สีแดงส้มปนสีเหลือง ออกเป็นช่อขนาดใหญ่ ยาวถึง 40 ซม. ดอกย่อยจำนวนมาก ขนาด 0.7-1 ซม. รูปคล้ายระฆัง ปลายแยกเป็น 5 แฉกโค้ง ดอกเพศผู้มีเกสรผู้ 10 อัน รังไข่อิสระจากกัน ผล เป็นฝักกลุ่มมี 3-5 พู ขนาดประมาณ 11 ซม. ผลแก่สีแดงส้ม มีขนหยาบหนาแน่นตามแนวตะเข็บด้านบน ก้านผลยาว มีหลายเมล็ด รูปรี สีดำ
Deciduous tree, up to 20 m high. Leaves digitately compound; leaflets 7-9, oblanceolate to elliptic, 11-22 cm long, 4-8.5 cm wide; apex acuminate; petiole 20-30 cm long. Inflorescence terminal and axillary panicle, densely with flowers, up to 40 cm long. Flowers yellowish to orange-red, unisexual, 0.7-1 cm across; calyx 5, tubular, lobes cohering at the apex; corolla absent. Male flower with 10 stamens. Fruit in 3-5 follicles, orange-red, sac and star-like, ca 11 cm long, dehiscing along the upper suture; long stalk and densely strigose.
