ไม้ล้มลุก มีเหง้า สูง 40-60 ซม. ใบ เดี่ยว รูปไข่ กว้าง 3.5-9 ซม. ยาว 7-18 ซม. ปลายใบแหลม โคนใบสอบ ผิวใบเกลี้ยง ดอก สีม่วงปนขาว ออกบนช่อดอกที่เกิดจากใบประดับ เรียงเวียน ซ้อนกันแน่น ด้านนอกมีสีน้ำตาลแดงพาดเป็นลายสีเข้มและจาง ตามยาว กลีบรองดอกรูปกรวย ปลายเว้าตื้นเป็น 3 แฉก กลีบดอก เป็นหลอด ยาว 14-17 มม. ปลายแยกเป็น 3 แฉก กลีบปากแผ่ รูปปากแตร ขอบกลีบสีม่วงอ่อน ด้านในสีเข้ม มีแถบสีเหลือง และลายเส้นสีแดงพาดตามยาว เกสรผู้มีอันเดียว เกสรเมียยาวเรียว ปลายเกสรรูปกรวย

Erect, terrestrial, perennial, rhizotomous herb, 40-60 cm high. Leaves simple, elliptic to ovate, 7-18 cm long by 3.5-9 cm wide, tapering at both ends, glabrous. Inflorescence terminal, erect, composed of many fleshy spirally arraged bracts; bracts reddish brown alternating with paler and dark stripes longitudinally. Flowers white and violet enclosed in the bract; calyx 3 cm funnel-shaped, with shallow lobes; corolla 3, tube 14-17 mm long; labellum campanulate, violet with yellow stripes and red lines along the veins, margin pale violet; stamen 1; style slender with funnel-shaped stigma.

ภูมิภาคอินโดจีนบริเวณ ลาวตอนใต้ และภาคตะวันออกของประเทศไทย พบบริเวณ ป่าดิบแล้งและป่าผลัดใบ ปัจจุบันพบปลูกกระจายอยู่ทั่วประเทศ ออกดอกช่วงดือนกรกฏาคม-สิงหาคม

In Indochina, around the southern part of Laos and eastern Thailand, in dry evergreen and deciduous forests. Flowering from July to August.
