 Terrestrial fern with erect to ascending rhizome, rhizome to 14 cm tall, crown 4 cm diameter. Stipe black at base, stipe and rachis otherwise green; stipes densely scaly at base, sparser upwards, scales dark brown. Fronds to 130 cm long with 7-8 pairs of pinnae, lamina 70 x 48 cm, widest around middle of lamina, basal pinnae reflexed. Lamina mid to dark green or grey-green and shiny above, paler beneath.
